Tottenham were beaten by Manchester United at Wembley on Sunday evening, but Harry Winks proved once again that he is the future of Mauricio Pochettino’s midfield.
Tottenham fell nine points behind Liverpool this weekend, despite completely dominating the second half of their defeat to Manchester United.
The Red Devils took the lead through Marcus Rashford in what was a hotly contested first half, but the Lilywhites were far superior after the interval.

While David De Gea’s excellence meant Pochettino’s side came away with no points, there were plenty of positives to take from the performance, and Winks proved once again he is ready for the big stage.
Perhaps the most alarming thing to come from Sunday’s defeat will be the injury to Moussa Sissoko, as the Frenchman pulled up in the first half with an apparent groin injury, meaning Pochettino is well and truly down to barebones in midfield.
With Mousa Dembele set to depart the club this month, according to Football London, 22 year-old Winks is now well and truly the main man in the middle for Pochettino. If the youngster keeps playing like he did on Sunday though, that won’t be a problem.
With Erik Lamela replacing the injured Sissoko after just 42 minutes, Winks was left as the only true midfielder on the pitch for his side.
In spite of this, he dominated the visiting trio of Nemanja Matic, Ander Herrera and Paul Pogba, completing 98 per cent of his passes, making five tackles and three interceptions.
He constantly got his side on the front foot with his positive and direct play, and even had a couple of cracks at goal himself, although none of his three efforts troubled De Gea.
Pochettino has built his reputation on developing young, English players, and if the boss is going to survive this injury crisis he will need Winks to re-pay his faith.
So, Tottenham fans, how impressed were you by Winks on Sunday? Let us know your thoughts in the comments below…
