Turkish giants Galatasaray are keen to sign Danny Welbeck from Arsenal but he is not convinced by a switch, according to Turkish-Football.
What’s the word?
Following the signings of Henrikh Mkhitaryan, Pierre Emerick-Aubameyang and Alexandre Lacazette in the past 12 months, Danny Welbeck’s standing at Arsenal has plummeted and Unai Emery could allow an exit before the European transfer deadline next Friday.
Turkish giants Galatasaray are keen on signing the England international to replace Bafetimbi Gomis but are struggling to persuade the 27-year-old to a switch despite being able to offer Champions League football, Turkish-Football reports.
Galatasaray are prepared to offer the former Manchester United man regular starting opportunities but Welbeck is fearful as to what a move would mean for his chances in Gareth Southgate’s England squad, which could prove to be decisive in a deal.
Should he move?
It seems we have been handed another case of an England player being too afraid to move abroad due to the perceived superiority of the Premier League but Welbeck’s situation, in particular, is extremely bizarre given his circumstances.
A fringe player at the Emirates Stadium under Unai Emery, Welbeck’s chances of first-team football this season are extremely limited and he is only likely to get the nod in cup competitions – which would make it difficult for him to maintain his squad in the England side.

On top of that, Welbeck isn’t even established as an important player for England after appearing just once off the bench for the Three Lions at the World Cup and, therefore, doesn’t really have too much to lose if he was to move to Turkey.
Finally, Welbeck should grab the opportunity to feature in the Champions League this season as performing at that level would give his chances of featuring for England a significant boost.
