Necaxa co-owner Sam Porter, a former D.C. United executive, has shared insights into his time with the MLS club and his role in an investment group that includes former Arsenal star Mesut Ozil. Speaking on the podcast with Herc Gomez, Porter also revealed that he once tried to sign Ozil for D.C. United during his tenure at the club.
“Mesut Ozil, for instance, was leaving Arsenal and I actually tried to sign him for DC United with Wayne Rooney, which I thought would have been awesome. He ended up signing in Turkey when he left Arsenal,” Porter said.

Porter is in among a star-studded ownership at the Necaxa, which plays in Liga MX. He's joined by Hollywood stars Ryan Reynolds and Eva Longoria along with former athletes Ozil, Justin Verlander, NFL player Odell Beckham Jr. and model Kate Upton.
Following Reynolds being added to Necaxa's ownership, the actor reciprocated by including Porter's investment group in Wrexham's ownership.
