The incident occurred when Martinez misplaced a pass near his penalty area, inadvertently setting up Chelsea striker Jackson for an opportunity. The shot-stopper scrambled to rectify the error and thwart Jackson but injured his hand in the process.

Another report from corroborated the finger fracture diagnosis, but also suggested the injury will not require a long recovery period.
