As reported by The Telegraph, Arsenal, Chelsea and Tottenham Hotspur are amongst the clubs tracking the progress of Manchester United’s Luke Shaw ahead of the January transfer window.
What’s the story?
The full-back has struggled to convince Jose Mourinho that he has what it takes to be a regular starter at Manchester United and his future at Old Trafford is in doubt ahead of the January transfer window.
The Telegraph report that while the Red Devils have recently extended his contract by 12 months to the summer of 2019, a number of clubs are interested in his services.
The paper say that Spurs, Arsenal, Chelsea, Everton and Manchester City are all watching his situation, with United valuing him at over £20m.
With his wages also reported to be £130,000 a week, The Telegraph reckon that could put clubs off, but does his talent mean he could be a smart buy for another of the top clubs in England?
A faded talent or a potential star?
There’s no doubt that Luke Shaw’s career at Manchester United hasn’t worked out in a way that either the club or the player himself will be happy with.
Making less than 50 appearances in all competitions in over three seasons, a player once tipped to be the future of the Red Devils’ defence has rapidly turned into a burden.
Under Jose Mourinho particularly his stock has faded and this season he’s failed to make a single appearance outside of the EFL Cup.
However, still just 22, he has the talent and the time to rebuild his career to an excellent level and on his day is undoubtedly a fine full-back. Working under the likes of Mauricio Pochettino or installed as a first-team choice at the likes of Everton could be the making of him again and while the figures quoted by The Telegraph are expensive, he could well turn out to be a clever acquisition for a team with ambitions to be a top six club.
