Manchester City defender Joleon Lescott is hoping to earn a new contract with the club this season, as reported by talkSPORT.
The former Everton defender had been linked with a move away from the Etihad this summer after struggling for first team football last season.
However a pre-season injury to Matija Nastasic is set to see Lescott get his chance against Newcastle United on Monday night in their opening game of the Premier League season.
Lescott was once again not included in Roy Hodgson’s England squad to face Scotland in midweek and the lack of international appearences is something that massively bothers the 30 year old who is in his final year of his current deal in Manchester.
“No one likes to see colleagues and fellow professionals get injured but if it means me starting then great,” Lescott told talkSPORT.
“If he [Manuel Pellegrini] does call upon me then I’d like to say I’d give 100% and do his decision justice.
“I’m in the last year of my contract now so I’ve got to get my head down and try and earn a new one here and remain here.
“It’s nice to be a part of this club and it’s nice to know that I came at the start when the club were in transition and as they started winning things.”
“I was disappointed not to be involved in the Scotland game but I’m confident that if I’m paying for Manchester City and we’re pushing for honours at the top of the Premier League then it will take care of itself.
“The national team is full of the best players and if you’re playing in a top team in your country you shouldn’t be too far away [from the squad].
“My ambitions don’t change but now I’m full focused on being selected for Man City and then hopefully I can get back into the England squad for the World Cup qualifiers.”
