In an interview with French outlet Onze Mondial, former Newcastle United midfielder Mehdi Abeid has opened up about his desire for a return to St James’ Park in the future.
The Algerian international, who made just 21 appearances for the Magpies, currently plays for Dijon in Ligue 1 but clearly fancies a switch back to the English Premier League.
As quoted by Onze Mondial, Abeid said:
Newcastle, it remains my club of heart. They counted a lot for me, so why not one day? I have not had any contact yet. Perhaps they follow me, it would be all to my honour, for it is a great club, I do not close the door.
As far as the cliched ‘come and get me plea’ goes, that’s up there and it’s obvious he would jump at the chance to play for Rafa Benitez next term.
It’s clear too that fans are pretty keen on signing him too. Sections of the Toon Army reckon the 24-year-old didn’t really get a fair shake at the club the first time around, especially after an impressive loan spell at Panathinaikos.
Fans took to Twitter to share their thoughts that he’s a player they should definitely be looking at this summer…
