Tottenham and Newcastle are prepared to battle the likes of Liverpool, Manchester United and Chelsea to the signing of Liam Delap from Ipswich.

Delap, 22, has impressed since joining Ipswich from Manchester City after the former's promotion from the Championship last year. He has scored 12 goals in 30 Premier League games – more than a third of the whole team's tally in the top-flight this term.

Premier League's top teams have been monitoring Delap and reports Spurs and Newcastle sent scouts to see him in action against Wolves on Saturday. Delap certainly made his mark as he scored just 16 minutes into the match, but Wolves fought back to win 2-1 in the second half. Chelsea are reportedly willing to pay around £50 million ($64m) for the forward, while United are eager to sign him as an alternative to Viktor Gyokeres, and the likes of Spurs and Newcastle will have a tough time fighting off interest from their rivals.

Amid his promising campaign and with Ipswich on track to be relegated back to the second tier, Delap is expected to leave the club in the summer after just one year. He signed a five-year contract last summer, meaning Ipswich will be able to demand a significant fee for him.

Delap will be looking to further impress one of the teams after him as Ipswich visit Stamford Bridge to face Chelsea on Sunday. A week later they take on Arsenal, followed by a clash with Newcastle at the end of the month.
